Evangelical Training Association Classroom Courses
The National Chaplain’s Association of New York State is approved to teach these courses through Bishop Emil T. Pagano, Rev. Sue S. Pagano, Bishop Rodney von Packal, Rev. Dr. Marvin Issum and Rev. Dr. Ralph Horrender. We are under contract with the Evangelical Training Association. We have been teaching these courses since 1986.
These courses are designed for post-high school adults. Each text book consists of 12 chapters/96 pages and are written by professors from member schools or ETA staff.Each of these courses qualifies for one ETA/CEU (Continuing Educational Unit) credit. This course will take approximately 2 1/2 years to three years of study. The student will graduate with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. They will also receive the three levels of ETA certificates.

Books that are required:
1. Biblical Beliefs - Presents foundational Bible doctrines in a popular, easy to understand format. Covered in the course are Creation and the Fall of Man, Faith and Regeneration, Justification and Adoptioin, Prayer and Worship, Angels, Satan, Resurrection and Judgement, and the church.
2. New Testament Survey - Brings unity and chronological sequence to New Testament study by weaving the contents of the books around a central theme - the person of Christ. Divisions are the Synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of John, the books of Acts, the Pauline Epistles in chronological order. The General Epistles and the Book of Revelation.
3. Old Testament Survey, Part 1 (Genesis - Esther): A sweeping overview of God’s working from creation through the early days of His chosen people. Topics include the patriarchs, Israel’s trek to the Promised Land, David’s reign, Solomon’s kingdom, the kingdom of Judah, and the exile.
4. Old Testament Survey Part 11 (Job - Malachi): The message of the books of poetry and the prophecy gives insight into God’s dealing s with His People. This course relates the great writings of the p-rophets to us today. It is in chronological sequence to advoid duplication of historical background information.
5. The Triune God: This course covers the individuality of the Father, SDon and Holy Spirit and the biblical teachings of the Trinity. Topics include the character /work of God; the preexistence, incarnation, deity, death, resurrection and return of Christ.; and the personality and power of the Holy Spirit.
6. You and Your Bible: Believers should be well informed about the Word of God. This course presents the inspiration and authorship of the Bible, how it was preserved, why we believe it, how we deal with its problems and critics, yjr role of archeology, and ways to study the Bible more effectively.
Ministry Skills
7. Growing Toward Spiritual Maturity: Topics include foundations for spiritual growth, communication with God, establishing a godly life-style, developing interpersonal skills, worship and devotional life, identifying spiritual gifts, ministry capabilities, areas for service and becoming a lifelong learner.
8. Teaching Techniques: Provides information on how to communicate God’s Word and apply it to life situations. This course covers teachings aims, methods, ans evaluation, as well as lesson preparation, presentation, application and principles of classroom discipline.
9. Understanding People: Gives insight into peoples’ personalities, experiences, interests, and needs. Examined in this course are the basic elements of personality development (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual) for each major age division. Emphasis is given to utilizing this information in teaching the Bible.
10. You the Teacher: This idea packed 30 minute audio cassettes, study guide which has complete outlines of the audio content, and thought -provoking application activities. Aresponse form for those who desire credit.
11. Teaching the Bible: Dr. Kenneth Gangel, Academic Dean of Dallas Theological Seminary, explains the basic principles of the teaching/learning process. The steps to follow in lesson planning and method selection are covered.
12. Discovering Bible Truth: Features Dr. David McKenna of Asbury Seminary, who stressesthe importabce of studying the Bible in preparation for teaching. He presents a specific procedure to use when studying the Bible passage for class presentation.
13. Understanding the Learner: Dr. Linda Cannell, professor of Christian Education at Trinity Evangelical School, presents the age level characteristics which teachers should be aware of when planning their lessons and teaching their students. Case studies are used. Provides you with practical application.
14. Discussion Dynamics: Dr. Dennis Williams, Denver Seminary, hosts this video designed for development of group discussion leaders. Dialogue and demonstrations by effective group discussion leaders are presented. The course includes 80 minute video and covers benefits of he discussion methods, effective use of the facilities, characteristics of an effective leader, the variety of ways to use discussion, and how to evaluate sessions and leaders.These Courses are taught by correspondence, by mentors approved by the Evangelical Training Association.
